The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

Hi! I’m Kimmie, and I live in the beautiful desert that is Phoenix, AZ in the U.S.A. I had spent my whole life hating my hair, hoping that if I just treated it the way girls with naturally straight hair treated theirs, I’d wake up one day with sleek, brush-able locks. I’d spend hours smashing my strands between two scalding plates (i.e. a straightener) in an attempt to achieve my dream head of hair. Thankfully my dream never came true, and I’m learning to love my natural hair for every wave & wonky curl.

A big part of my inspiration has been all of the beautiful curlies on Instagram sharing their journeys toward loving & celebrating their natural hair. Especially living in such a dry climate, I didn’t understand just how much my hair craves ALL THE WATER. It’s been amazing to see how much life has come back to my waves/curls by simply learning how to properly moisturize & seal in that sacred moisture. (Shoutout to Flora & Curl for making products that make this journey a whole lot more enjoyable!)

There have been a lot of successes & at least twice as many failures along the way so far, but it has been so much fun embracing the way God made me.

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

I think the biggest challenge for me has been to not give up. Having a failed washday is discouraging. And having a second failed wash day in a row compounds my discouragement. Sometimes it seems like it would be a whole lot easier to just pull out the curling iron, spend an hour or two wrapping strand after strand around the barrel, and living with my fried, lifeless hair. But easier in the short term does not equate to easier in the long run. I want healthy, happy hair for my whole life, so it’s worth pressing on through the challenges.

What is your number 1 curl tip?

My #1 curl tip is to find your “why”. Why do you want to embrace your natural hair? Because once you know your why, it’s a lot easier to love your hair in whatever stage it’s in & continue in the journey.

Discovering Flora & Curl

What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?

I first found Flora & Curl in my local Ulta store, went online to read some reviews (many rave reviews), & fell in love with the companies values/mission (also the products are all simply beautiful to look at…delightful bonus!) , so I decided to purchase the Mini Essentials Curl Kit to see how my hair would like them. Spoiler alert: My hair loves them all!

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

My hair feels more hydrated & has so much more shine than it ever had before using Flora & Curl products.

Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?

My favorite Flora & Curl product is the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel! I have fairly fine hair, so a lot of other product lines on the market end up weighing my hair down no matter how little product I use. That is not the case with this gel. It smells heavenly, and a little bit goes a long way.

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

My current Flora & Curl routine is to use the Rose Water Cream Shampoo and the Rose Water Cream Conditioner followed by the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion and finished with the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel by scrunching it in. The result is soft, playful waves/curls that I love so much!

I love that Flora & Curl’s products are all natural. Natural ingredients = healthy natural hair. And also, the scent of each product is divine!
