Meet Lauren from Sheffield! Our curly girl is still getting used to her curly wavy hair, but has been more consistent with it than ever! And already, that is a huge achievement as we all know how hard transitioning from your previous norm to your new is very, VERY hard at first. So congrats! And keep it up, Lauren!
The Journey
What inspired you to return natural?
Hello, I am Lauren I am a 21-year-old student living in Sheffield while studying at the University of Sheffield.
When I was a child I used to have naturally curly wavy hair. However, as I became older these curls dropped and became loose waves due to not knowing how to care for curly wavy hair properly. When I started university I decided to begin my journey to bring back my curls. I started researching what curls and waves require and how I would go about managing my natural hair texture.
I then bought a bunch of products which were recommended for curly hair and used the curly girl method as a guide. A lot of what I did was trial and error however, this allowed me to understand what my hair liked and disliked and what provided me with the best results. I did give up a few times as I found it hard work to adapt to the demands of a new extensive styling routine which takes more time than I was used to. Plus I used to get frustrated if I was not getting the results that I wanted. However, over the past year and a half, I have been determined and have stuck to a routine. I am still learning what my hair requires and still can become disheartened by my results. However, I embrace my curly wavy hair for what it is and cannot see a future without my natural texture!
What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?
There were definitely challenges along the way and I still face challenges now 3 years into my journey where my hair does not cooperate! I think my main challenge was learning what types of products my hair responds best to. There are so many products on the market and I found it overwhelming when trying to find the right products for me.
I also used to compare my results to others on social media and felt disheartened when my hair did not look as good as theirs.
However it is important to remember that everyone's hair is unique and these results can even differ between washes despite using the same products; that is the beauty of wavy and curly hair - it has its own mind!!
What is your number 1 curl tip?
I think my main tip would be to layer products and remember that less is always more. I find this works best as I am providing my hair with everything it needs without using too much product to weigh it down and result in limp and undefined curls.
Extra Tip! I highly recommend putting your hair in a loose bun or pineapple overnight to protect your waves and curls. I find this helps preserve definition on days 2 and 3.
Discovering Flora & Curl
What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?
I heard about Flora & Curl products when I was researching curly hair products. Their styling products came up frequently and always had amazing reviews which made me want to try their products for myself.
How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?
Once I started using Flora & Curl products I saw my hair become more defined, less frizzy and most importantly for me, more bouncy and voluminous which I had struggled to get from other products I had previously tried.
Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?
I would say my favourite product I have tried from Flora & Curl is the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam. I love this product because it provides volume along with texture to my hair. It is also a great product for refreshing your curls on day 2 and beyond.
What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?
My current Flora & Curl routine consists of applying the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion onto soaking-wet hair. I then scrunch out a bit of the excess water with a microfibre towel; then gently scrunch the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Volumizing Foam into the roots and lengths of my hair. Then finish with the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel which I scrunch into the lengths of my hair for definition and hold.
What sets Flora & Curl apart from other brands/products on the market?
I believe that Flora & Curl is set apart from other products available on the market as they ensure that your haircare routine is simple and enjoyable. All their products are also scientifically created to meet the basic needs of all curl types. They do this by offering different collections from hydrating to styling and protecting. Plus their products smell amazing which is always a bonus!
