The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

Hello, I am Billie and I live in Liverpool in the North West of England.

When I was younger, my mum, who has straight hair, didn't know how to look after my wild hair. She would brush it each morning to get my matted tats out and would pull it into a frizzy ponytail so I never knew how beautiful my hair had the potential to be! It wasn't until I was much older that I realised I could have curls but without the knowledge of how to look after them I took to regularly straightening my hair as I found it so much easier to manage. Now I have been straightening my hair for over 10 years and it is heat damaged and my curls just aren't the same!

I have started my Curly Girl journey because I am now a mother to two girls, who look like they are going to be curly girls too (both under 2). I want them to grow up to love their curly hair but I feel if their mum can't embrace her curls and be confident then they will have the same negative feelings about curls.

I have been following the Curly Girl Method for just 3 weeks. I would describe my curls as 3B and it is very long (but flat). As my heat damaged hair gets healthier then I hope I will have more volume and less frizz.

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

New to Curly Girl Method but so far a difficulty has been working out what products I am allowed to use. Flora and Curl have made it easy as they have all the products you may need on your journey. I had trouble with a different brand being itchy so I switched to Flora and Curl this week. So far, so good.

What is your number 1 curl tip?

Use products, never brush! I think hair curl methods are individual to the person and the curl they want to achieve. I like to use the bowl method to apply product and squish my hair.

Discovering Flora & Curl

What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?

Flora and Curl adverts kept popping up on my Facebook page.

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

Compared to other brands I have used, I feel my curls are more defined.

Which Flora & Curl product is your favourite and why?

I really like the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion. It doesn't feel too heavy, goes on smoothly and it smells beautiful!

What is your current Flora & Curl haircare routine?

I use the Rose Water Detangling Lotion in the shower to untangle knots. I do rinse some of it out. I then squeeze some of the water out of my hair and use the praying method to apply curl lotion. I then use a wide-toothed comb to comb it through and rake some more product through, before using bowl method to squish my hair up into a curl and use a muslin cloth to squeeze out excess water.

What sets Flora & Curl apart from other brands/products on the market?

They smell beautiful, the Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion doesn't feel sticky at all and easily soaks into the hair, they are not itchy and give me a more defined curl.
