The Journey

What inspired you to return natural?

My name is Chantell and I am learning for the first time how to take care of my curls. Growing up in Los Angeles there is this idea of glamor. Beauty is a huge thing here. The ideal is blond straight hair, stick thin figure, white teeth, etc. I tried to be the thin girl with straight hair I thought I was meant to be. But it never made me happy. I got tired of hiding my curls. I could never manage to care for them and eventually I gave up and just braided it everyday. Finally I came to understand my curls were beautiful and my hair needed to be set free so to speak. I'd done a treatment to straighten it and saw just how damaged my hair was. That day I began my journey to embrace and nourish my curls. I started researching and learned about hair types, porosity, all of the things I never knew existed. No one had ever known how to make my hair healthy. So I had to figure it out for myself. Which has been such a fun experience. I've really loved learning and experimenting with what works and just what my hair needs.

What were the challenges (if any) along the way of your healthy hair journey?

Being biracial I had no idea what products to use. Everyone told me to use this or that, everything was too heavy or made my hair frizzy or fried it. I even got a chemical burn from relaxers. Not to mention not knowing what on earth sulfates, parabens, etc were. I was just slathering any old thing on my hair.

What is your number 1 curl tip?

Be patient with your curls. Some days they may frizz, sometimes there is no definition, sometimes they are gorgeous. It's a process, enjoy the process.

What made you buy Flora & Curl products? How did you hear about us?

I saw them on @lettscurl's Instagram and was curious. I looked at the ingredients and knew I needed to try them. They were natural, and sounded exactly like what I needed.

How did you see your hair change after using Flora & Curl products?

It hasn't been long but already my hair is so shiny, it looks moisturized, it's also so incredibly soft.

The Garden Butter, it smells like heaven, sometimes I just open it and smell it even when I'm not using it. It also just melts into my hair. I love it.

I use the Coconut Mint Scalp Refresh Shampoo, the Rose Water Curl MistRose Water Cream Conditioner,
