Hey Curlies, Happy New Year! The first month of the new year is drawing to a close, and I have to ask you: have you made any goals for taking care of your curls? If you haven’t, it’s ok—you still have time to adopt some healthy hair habits for 2020. Let’s take a look at what your three top curl goals should be for this year!
Perhaps you keep trying product after product or you keep trying different application techniques in search of the magic unicorn that is perfect, frizz free curls. Honestly, your hair wants nothing more than for you to treat it right and treat it with consistency. Try using an entire line that is formulated to work together. Schedule regular deep conditioning sessions. Protect your curls at night. If you haven’t found success with wearing your hair naturally, it could be due to a lack of commitment—sometimes washing or sometimes not, forgetting to do treatments as needed, and sleeping on regular cotton pillowcases because you forgot your bonnet or silk pillowcase.
One of the single best things you can do for your hair health is to massage your scalp with a good oil blend. The massage stimulates the follicles and helps to increase blood circulation. Using oils proven to nourish the hair can increase hair growth and help keep the hair you have healthy and growing. While massaging your hair, you can add oil to the lengths for a pre-shampoo treatment. Adding a light layer of oil to your hair is protective and depending upon the oil you choose, penetrative. The oil layer can also help your hair from absorbing too much water and can help keep your hair balanced.
I know many of us have length goals, but keeping split, damaged ends for length’s sake doesn’t do you any favors. The splits will travel up the hair shaft causing further damage. Holding on to unnecessary length can also weigh down your curls and cause them to look stringy and limp. Book some time with a curl specialist if you want to get a dry curly cut. A curl by curl cut can give your hair added volume and shape. You can also see your regular stylist for a traditional wet cut if you prefer. The goal here is to keep those ends healthy and fresh! Keep the trims to every 12 weeks or so; otherwise, you are cutting off your hard work!
Here’s to a year of healthy, beautiful curls and coils!
Yours in Hair Health,
