Styles That Will Inspire To Help Embrace and Take Care Of Your Natural Curls

Whether your curls are long, short, loose or tight curled, it can sometimes be a struggle to find styles that suit and fit your personality.

Society has shown that natural hair has been seen as "unacceptable", but this does not take away the fact that our natural curls are beautiful in all their kinks, coils and curls. Our tresses are a part of us, so wear your natural curls with pride.

I’m not sure about you, but back in the day, wearing your hair in a few simple styles was the thing, as it was hard to find hair styles to create and that were nice.

Well those days are behind us and the styles are endless. Whether you're looking to style your day to day hair or for a special occasion, we are never short of inspiration with celebrities like Viola Davis, Zendaya and Lupita Nyong'o paving the way.

Not to worry though, Flora & Curl have got you. We have rounded up some styles that will inspire you to embrace and take care of your natural curls.

Short and Sweet

Jodie Turner-Smith knows all about short styles.

Whether you have just big chopped and starting fresh, or love to keep things simple, a short and sweet hair style like Jodie’s will allow you to go day to day and not worry too much about styling.

While you may not need to do much styling, remember to keep your slick style moisturised. Use our Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion as a light moisturiser, or our Sweet Hibiscus Twist & Braid Cream if you would like something a little thicker. Both paired with our Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil will provide you with moisture and shine.

The Updo

A timeless and classic style like Rita Ora's up do will have you loving your texture all over again. This style is also great if you are someone who usually wears their hair in a classic bun or high puff, but with a twist.

While your curls are protected in your gorgeous updo, a few spritz of our Rose Water Curl Mist around your style, will keep your curls hydrated and moisturised without you having to do a thing.

Tip: Try adding a few drops of our Rose Water Detangling Lotion  in a spray bottle with some water or our hair mist for some extra added moisture.

Head Wraps

I think we can all say Gabrielle Union and her daughter Kaavia know how to wear a headwrap well.

Head wraps are not only a fashionable accessory, but is an easy way to protect your curls and can be worn all year round, while still looking good and showing your personal style.

They are a great way to protect your curls from everyday styling, and elements such as heat, wind and rain. Meaning less breakage and few split ends.

But remember to keeping your tresses moisturised under your wrap. They are great to protect your curls, but we don’t want to defeat the purpose of wearing one and having your curls be dry.

Transitioning

If you are in the middle of transitioning, or have been in the transitioning process, then I'm sure you'll all be able to relate to Zendaya when she transitioned and revealed her natural curls. There is something special in seeing your natural texture and curls form.

Transitioning can be a difficult time while on your natural hair journey, but remember there is light at the end of the tunnel. Remember to give your hair a break from heat styling, work in sections and keep your hair moisturised all over, especially at the line of demarcation (where the new growth and relaxed hair meets) and after washing.

Our Rose Water Detangling Lotion and Citrus Superfruit Radiance Oil are the perfect duo to help lock in and keep all parts of your hair moisturised.

Embrace Your Curls

Free flowing and happy, Viola Davis inspires us all to wear our natural curls as they are and not worry about having the “perfect curl”. We all have frizz, single strand knots and sometimes different curl patterns on our heads. So instead of fighting them, why not embrace them.

Having a simple refresh routine will allow your curls to shine and form in their natural glory. Our Rose Water Curl Mist is the perfect primer to help activate, soften your new growth and hydrate your curls.

Mini Twists

If you’re looking for something new but don’t want to do anything drastic, then mini twists are the way to go. The versatility is endless and they are easy to maintain. Plus, they’ll prevent your hair from breaking and your twists will stay moisturised for longer all while looking super cute.

Our rich and potent Sweet Hibiscus Twist & Braid Cream is the perfect companion for your twists. Providing intense moisture and shine to make your twists last.

TWA

Just because you may have a short TWA (teeny weeny afro), doesn’t mean you have just one look.

Just like Lupita Nyong’o, you always have the option to play around with your fro while showing your beautiful texture. Using products like our Sweet Hibiscus Curl Defining Gel, Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion or Sweet Hibiscus Twist & Braid Cream, can encourage curl and coil formation while softening and defining your curls.

Loose Waves

Embracing her texture, Selena Gomez shows us how she is truly embracing her natural curls. Looser curl patterns do not need to be weighed down with heavy products, and tend to use products that are lightweight.

As you have seen, there are a variety of hairstyles that can suit everyone and show your natural curls. It all starts with learning to love and embrace all of your kinks, coils and curls, and the possibilities are endless.

Naturally yours,
Team Flora & Curl
